Why doctors don't do much good

  • CMU, Room D.02.2759.a 1 Rue Michel-Servet Genève, GE, 1206 Switzerland (map)

First meet-up of 80’000 Hours Geneva at the Centre Médical Universitaire in room D.02.2759.a:

« Why doctors don’t do much good. And how to do more! »

**When we think of an ethical and impactful career, we think of doctors perhaps above all else. Many young people who want to make a difference choose to study medicine. But we rarely consider how much good doctors do in much detail.

Lee Sharkey, consultant to the WHO/OMS, who studied medicine at University of Cambridge, UK, presents the research on the true impact of becoming a doctor and how we can use our career to make the biggest difference.**

So, come and join us for Lee’s presentation followed by a round table (discussion) and a delicious vegan aperitif. Open to everyone.
When: 21 of March, 18.30h
Where: CMU D.02.2759.a (ancient bâtiment)

The presentation will be held in English, though if you don’t feel comfortable speaking English (for questions and discussion), you may very well express yourself in French.

In the context of our newly initiated project 80’000 Hours Geneva, we are running monthly meet-ups during this semester. Our work will be topped off by a series of proper 80’000 workshops (career advice for a fulfilling and high-impact career) targeted at all UNIGE students at the beginning of the Autumn Semester 2017.

But what is 80’000 Hours anyway?

**You have 80,000 hours in your career. Make the right career choices, and you can help solve the world’s most pressing problems, as well as have a more rewarding, interesting life.
We’re here to give you the information you need to find that fulfilling, high-impact career. Our advice is all free, tailored for talented graduates, and based on five years of research alongside academics at Oxford.**
